Letter to Healthcare Providers: FDA and CDC Tests Confirm Enfamil PREMIUM® Newborn Product Safety
Dear Health Care Professional,
As a follow-up to information I recently sent you regarding the Enfamil® Family of Formulas™, I wanted to update you regarding the outcome of testing just released by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Enfamil PREMIUM Newborn formula.
On December 30, Mead Johnson Nutrition was notified by the FDA and CDC that they had completed their testing of all formula samples collected from the company and that their results confirmed that the Enfamil formulas were safe, and no presence of Cronobacter (Enterobacter sakazakii) was detected. The testing conducted by the two agencies on Enfamil PREMIUM Newborn formula related to two health investigations in Missouri and Illinois. These were the only two cases in which any Enfamil product was fed to the infant.
The FDA and CDC findings are consistent with the two rounds of testing conducted by Mead Johnson, which I outlined in my recent message to you.
You and your patients can continue to place your trust in all of Mead Johnson Nutrition's products. Every one of our infant formula products goes through approximately 2,300 quality checks and safety tests before leaving our facilities.
As stated in my previous communication, I affirm with complete confidence that every product we produce is safe.
Since Cronobacter is ubiquitous in the environment, proper formula handling and preparation by infant caregivers is important. Enfamil product labeling and consumer information include these instructions, and we appreciate your help in reminding parents to follow them with care.
We want to continue to provide you with the information you need to address your patients' concerns. If you have any questions, please contact our Medical Services Team at MJMedicalAffairs@mjn.com or 812-429-6399.
